Mercedes-Benz Unveils New 518-HP SUV

You might have heard that Mercedes-Benz is in the process of swapping the feisty 6.2-liter V8 out of its lineup in favor of a more efficient turbocharged 5.5-liter V8. Many die-hard Mercedes-Benz fans, are sad to see the 6.2 go; however, Fletcher Jones Imports can assure you, this is one instance where change is most certainly a good thing.

By opting for a slightly smaller engine, Mercedes-Benz is bringing drivers heightened efficiency without sacrificing power. In fact, the latest vehicle to get the new 5.5, the 2012 ML63 AMG, boasts even more power than its 6.2-liter predecessor - 15 more hp to be exact.  The added boost raises the SUV's total herd of ponies to 518. That is unless you opt for the AMG Performance Package; in which case the total grows to 550 hp.

Translate hp into agility and you get a top speed of 155 mph for the standard model and 174 mph for the performance package. Zero-to-60-mph sprint time? Four-point-seven seconds and four-point-six seconds respectively!

In some instances, the new Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG SUV's stats go so far as to outdo exotic sports cars. For example, compared to the Maserati Gran Turismo, the five-seater delivers 113 more hp! ...Looks like good things don't necessarily have to come in small packages after all.

Adding to the grandeur of the ML63 AMG, Mercedes-Benz couples such awe-inspiring force with extreme safety to give drivers an experience that is at once riveting and serene. According to a recent press release, "...The 2012 ML63 AMG is based on the Mercedes-Benz concept of Real Life Safety, derived primarily from what happens in a real accident situation. The extremely robust occupant cell and front and rear crumple zones form an effective basis for the occupant protection system."1

If that's not enough to convince you of the Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG SUV's profound safety, maybe this will... It's nine airbags don't just activate instantly upon impact, they adapt to the nature of the accident, reducing the force exerted on occupants and any potential damage that may be done.
