Mercedes-Benz to Fire Long-Awaited SLA at TT, in 2013

Mercedes-Benz is preparing to launch a new model targeted to compete with the Audi TT in a matter of two years. The arsenal we're speaking of is the Mercedes-Benz compact SLA roadster.
You might remember, the Mercedes-Benz SLA concept originally debuted in the New Millennium at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. The luxury concept was originally based on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. There has been talk, however, that the production version will be based on the new Mercedes-Benz B-Class. This would make the SLA the first Mercedes-Benz roadster to ever gain front-wheel drive.
The drivetrain featured in the compact roadster will also be updated. In production form, the Mercedes-Benz SLA is slated to feature a 1.6-liter, turbocharged, direct-injection, four-cylinder petrol engine. To transfer the engine's power into the most memorable driving experiences possible, Mercedes- Benz will couple it with their imminent seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission. A more conventional-six-speed manual transmission will, however, still be available. And, of course, our friends across the pond will get a diesel variant
Every aspect of the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz SLA has been thoughtfully designed - from the easy-to-use soft-top to the retro-inspired cockpit to the rich leather tanned only in vegetable matter to enhance and preserve its unique character to high-performance LED headlamps and turn signals to strategically-placed rollover bars. The overall body is even engineered using a lightweight, hybrid mix of aluminum sections and high-grade plastics.
Off course, Mercedes-Benz SLA specs might evolve some, and ultimately advance, between now and its highly-anticipated launch. Stay tuned to find out exactly what directions Mercedes-Benz takes it. There are new Mercedes-Benz models available at Fletcher Jones Imports, both in person and online.
