2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Shows off its Leaner, Meaner Bod, in Detroit

If you were to look at the stellar lineup of new Mercedes-Benz models, you'd never know the venerable automaker is sixty years old. On the contrary, their cars seem to be getting leaner and meaner with each passing model year. A prime example: the 2013 SL-Class, which just debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Built almost entirely from lightweight aluminum, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class weighs nearly 300 pounds less than its predecessor. This means it's not only significantly faster than the 2012 model, but a lot more fuel efficient, too. Who said you can't have your cake and eat it, too?
As SL-Class stands for "super light"; this extreme weight reduction compliments the vehicle's nomenclatures perfectly. Other changes, drivers are sure to revel in are the vehicle's added length and width, new twin-turbo direct-injection 4.7-liter V8 and 429 raging ponies of power. Oh yea, and let us not forget torque, which is over 30-percent more powerful in the in the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class than in the previous iteration.
Describing the new Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, Dieter Zetsche, Chariman, Daimler says, "You would struggle to find a car that embodies Gottlieb Daimler's aspirations more perfectly than our new SL-Class."1 Heck, even the SL-Class convertible's windshield wiper blades are unique. Windshield wiper fluid is actually channeled directly through them onto the windshield, rather than from the hood, in an effort to use less spray.
