What is Mercedes-AMG®?
Almost every Mercedes-Benz class has at least one: Mercedes-AMG®. Usually, AMG® models are marked by the name of the class, followed by 43, 45, 63, or 63 S. The AMG® C-Class, for example, is offered in AMG® C 43, AMG® C 63, and AMG® C 63 S. So, what is Mercedes AMG®, and what does that distinction entail? Read on for a quick look at the start of AMG® and some of the features that make these vehicles unique.
A Brief History
AMG® (Aufrecht, Melcher, and Großaspach) began as a two-man operation out of Burgstall. After leaving Mercedes-Benz, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher established AMG®, and began living their dream of designing some of the highest performing engines of the time. Their first great victory came in 1971 with the AMG® Mercedes 300 SEL 6.8, which placed second at the 24 Hours of Spa—putting AMG® on the map. Now a subsidiary of Daimler AG, AMG® works with Mercedes-Benz to build luxurious vehicles with outstanding specs.
What Makes Mercedes-AMG® Cars Special?
